Operation Love

Ruther and I are watching a new Japanese tv drama now. It's Operation Love and it's quite funny and undoubtedly unique. The story revolves around this guy who went back in time to try to win the heart of his love who, in present time, was wed to another man. So yeah, it's a really unique story and it's fun to watch. There's none of the heavy drama and it's interesting to see how the guy tries his best to win his lady love. We're on the 7th episode now and hopefully, we're gonna see the end today. Can't wait! =D

1 Litre of Tears

I am currently watching this Japanese tv drama. It's such a sad story. It is actually based on a life story of a girl who had an incurable disease and had some difficulty acepting it. I won't say what the illness is specifically just to keep interested viewers curious. Who knows, one of you might be interested to watch it. Anyway, the cast was pretty much okay. The story is dramatic, considering the events of the disease, treatment, acceptance, etc. But what truly touched me in the story were the courage of the girl, the way the family stood by her and supported her, and the strength of the mom. Really, of the same thing happened to me, I would not know how to cope. Or if anyone in my family had this disease (knock on wood!), I really don't think I would be as strong as the mother in the story. So truly, she was quite admirable.

I am more than halfway done with the movie so I am looking forward to how it ends. Hopefully, it won't be too sad or I'll be crying buckets of tears before the day is over...

New Shows

Ruther has introduced me to 3 new shows and so far, here are my thoughts:

GOSSIP GIRL

I don't like this series much. Ruther tells me that it is similar to the O.C. and I also did not like that series much. In fact, I did not even finish it. I think I watched part of the second season then it got a bit too much for me and I just quit it. Gossip Girl reminds me of that tv series. It's just too glamour and little substance. And I'm not very fond of those kind of stories. I like my stories with depth and meaning and lessons and morals. I'm just that kind of girl. Despite my not liking the series much, having Kirsten Bell as the narrator is a huge plus so I'm giving it another chance.

PUSHING DAISIES

This one is a cute series and I love it! Anything that combines fantasy and romance and crime is my cup of tea. Plus, I think Ned (in the story) is cute (when I told Ruther this he raised his eyebrow at me). I think I have a crush on him. But I digress... Anyway, the story is quite unique and that was where my interest began. So far, I am enjoying this series and am looking forward to more episodes.

CHUCK

This one is an unexpected surprise. I thought it was going to be one of those corny and cheesy comedies but I was wrong. It IS funny but not in a corny way (I am SO not a fan of those kind of movies or series) and I love the suspense and criminal aspects in the story. It is witty without being too vulgar and the suspense just keeps me hanging on my toes. The characters are well-thought of and are really delightful. Another series I am looking forward to watching.

Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2

Oh my god. I am SO addicted to this show! It's so weird because once the tv is on that show, I just can't get away. Scary right? But I really can't help it because the housemates (HMs) this time are all so interesting (perhaps with the exception of Zara at this time). It's just so funny and dramatic and weird and just a mix of emotions. I like watching how the HMs handle their situation, how they live day to day with each other, how they get along, how they cope, how they respond to Big Brother's challenges, etc. It's just very entertaining. But of course, I would not want my kids to watch this at their young age. There are still some things I find uncomfortable in the show that I would not want them to see or hear. But anyway, I am sure that I will keep on watching this show until it ends. Hopefully, the winner will be someone worth the prize.

Teleseryes (TV Soaps)

I don't know why I love watching teleseryes. It must be because of the drama. It must be because of the lessons. It also must be because I learn more Tagalog words when I do so. But probably one reason why I really enjoy watching them is because the Filipino ways and values and traditions are always portrayed in the story. And I love that. The closeness of family, the value of hardwork, the unimportance of money, the presence of God in our lives... all those and more. I love that despite the somewhat overdramatic villains, I am happy that good always prevails in the end. I am such a sucker for happy endings. I am currently following 2 teleseryes on ABS-CBN and I am enjoying them a lot. Even Ruther's aunt (Tita Nicki) and cousin (Natasha) who are from Australia love our teleseryes. Tita Nicki sometimes asks me to translate some of the difficult Tagalog words and I really admire her for her interest in our dramas. Sometimes, the stories can be so dull, sometimes it can drag onwards until you just want to end. But I must say, the teleseryes have improved over the years. Before, a story could last for almost a year but lately, 6 months is already considered too long. I like the teleseryes short. The stories should always be interesting and always thrilling. Sometimes, when I lose interest in a teleserye, I give it up, just like that. I don't bother watching if it gets dull. I just don't want to waste (what I perceive to be) my important time on something no longer interesting (like Lost, I gave it up ages ago). Hopefully, these 2 teleseryes I'm watching won't become dull or boring. I would really love to see how they end. =D

Yan Papa

I just finished watching Yan Papa and I must say, I did not enjoy the series that much. Maybe because the story was a bit predictable, or maybe because the characters did not have a lot of chemistry between them. I also did not like the way the main characters (the children) answered back to elders in a very disrespectful way. It was just horrible! Really uncouth! Anyway, I did not enjoy it as much as the previous Japanese tv dramas. It was still entertaining though so no problem. And I still learn a lot of Japanese phrases while watching so no harm done. =D

The cast and characters:

Nagase Tomoya as Mabuchi Yuusaku (the husband and young father) - acting was okay; played the part diligently.

Fujitani Miwako as Kazama Yui (the wife) - a bit over the top; didn't like her acting much.

Goto Maki as Kazama Kaoruko (the eldest daughter) - she was okay; a bit impolite for my taste. If she was my daughter I would have disciplined her ages ago and taught her the proper way of talking to elders.

Ishida Miku as Kazama Sakurako (the second daughter) - good enough acting; again, the attitude in the story irked me. They should not portray kids who are impolite, disrespectful and uncouth. That to me is really inexcusable.

Tomashino Kazuma as Kazama Junnosuke (the youngest son) - good enough for a youngster. Cute boy.

I Pick...

I was reading the magazine the other day when I chanced upon a survey. It basically asks "Which tv hunk would you most want to date?" The choices: Patrick Dempsey, Hugh Laurie, Charlie Sheen, and Peter Gallagher. If I were to answer that, I would without a doubt choose Hugh Laurie. I have always admired his acting and his professionalism. He was always great in British films especially when he was alongside Emma Thompson (a fave actress of mine). When I started watching House MD, I loved him all the more. Now, in case you think I have the hots for older men, you're wrong. I'm just the type of person who likes people for their mind more than their looks. It's just the way I am. I did watch Grey's Anatomy and know about Patrick Dempsey but his McDreamy ways didn't work on me. Charlie Sheen, I'm sorry but I don't find him cute at all and the only time I liked Peter Gallagher for his looks was in the movie While You Were Sleeping (with Sandra Bullock) and that's it. Hugh Laurie I like a lot and not only because he's witty and smart and speaks with a British accent. He's very talented, really great actor and I really really love those blue eyes. I think I could drown in them. No kidding.

Here are more facts about him: http://www.hughlaurie.net/bio.html

Meteor Garden

I already watched this tv series before when it was aired on ABS-CBN. Now that it's shown on GMA I still could not help but watch it. I know the story. I also know that it was adapted from a Japanese manga and that there also was a Japanese tv series related to it: Hana Yori Dango. I watched the first few episodes of Hana Yori Dango but I still love Meteor Garden. I suppose I really love the chemistry between Shan Cai and Dao Ming Si (played by Barbie Hsu and Jerry Yan). I love the story. I love that it's all about love. I love how Dao Ming Si changed his horrible attitude for love of Shan Cai. I love that Shan Cai lowered her pride and became more understanding towards Dao Ming Si and accepted his flaws. I love the moments when they realized they had feelings for each other, the chases, the kilig moments, the times when they would stare in each others' eyes. I love that they fought for their love and love conquered all. That to me, makes this series so appealing. Okay, I'm sappy, fine. I can live with myself so I don't mind. Now that I am watching this series again, I'm thinking of owning a copy so I could watch it later on when I want to watch a sentimental show. Might have to check if the video is still available in stores. I hope there are copies still. This is such a cute show.
